2007 Crime Stats Released
SAPS have released their annual crime stats. Parkhurst is to be found in the Parkview Policing Precinct and we have created two graphs to show how much the crime has increased in our area. Click here to access the security section.

Loadshedding in Parkhurst
Eskom have now cancelled the PLANNED LOADSHEDDING. But we will be cut if there is a shortage of power. So we still need to save electricity (see the latest Parkhurst Post for hints and tips). If we are cut it will be on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday between 6-10pm.

Objections to Your Property Valuation?
Former City Councillor and PVRA Committee member Kim Lugli is offering to handle your objections to the sometimes ridiculously high Joburg City Council's valuations that will determine how much extra you will pay for your rates in July 2008. You have until 27 May 2008 to lodge your objections

She charges a flat rate of R300 and will help you complete your valuation form, sort out your supporting paperwork and handle all the toing an froing that is needed to lodge the complaint. Contact her on 011-447-4439 / 083-383-4359 /  rezoning&bylaws@parkhurst.org.za.

Street Lights On During the Day
From Cheryl Labuschagne, Chair of the Open Spaces Sub-Committee: I have finally got to the bottom of why some street lights are on night and day.  After much to-ing and fro-ing it has come to light (pardon the pun) that where street lights are on night and day it is in all likelihood because cables have been stolen.  Rather than leave certain blocks in darkness, City Power connects the lights to an alternative supply until such time as the stolen cable is replaced.  I guess they might also make "alternative connections" where faults exist within cables (?). In this instance, thumbs up to City Power for considering the general safety benefits of having lighting at night.

  • The Truth About Hot Water Cylinders/Heaters/Geysers
  • What your appliances cost you?
  • What are the big ticket electrical items.

Membership Subscriptions
We have also decided to outsource the collection of annual subscriptions and advertising for the Parkhurst Post to Jasper Management Services. They have been successfully collecting subs from other Resident's Assoc in our area. As we have over 1900 households, it has become a huge job in managing the collections and renewals, so for an initial set up fee of R2000 and 10% of the money collected, Jasper will now be handling this side of running the association.

Members will be asked to bring their subs up to date until the end of the financial year (December 2007) and from next year all residents will be invoiced on the same date for the year (ie 1 January 2008 for subs 2008). Payments can be made as follows:

Direct Deposit: The Village Residents Association, Nedbank, Hyde Park 197205, Account Number 1972 069926.

Please use your surname and street address on all direct deposits and fax proof of payment to 011-789-6139.

Cheque payment: Post to P O Box 412063, Craighall, 2024 OR deliver to Nan Roberts Estates in 4th Ave where you will be receipted for your payment.

About Us
Welcome to the Parkhurst Village Residents Association website. Parkhurst is located in the northern suburbs of Johannesburg. While it is quite small, it is densely developed with over 2,200 plots each typically occupying an area of about 500m2.

The PVRA is the volunteer elected representative body of the residents of Parkhurst. The PVRA also represents the 4th tier of government - acting as the link between the residents and the various authorities who run the city and the country.

However, we don't always handle all the official things and complaints, but also the fun things. The Village Fair, the Senior Citizens Party and various other social events. We also act as a link between the residents and the security companies as well as the many traders in Parkhurst. We produce a newsletter, The Parkhurst Post, every 2-3 months which is distributed to our members free of charge.

Membership fees start at R120 a year for pensioners and R240 for a household. Visit the membership page for more details.
